2013

This was our very first family Christmas card.  What a year!  I can't believe how much can change in one short year... luckily, these changes were good...

Alicia- Officially placed as Assistant Branch Manager at Chase in Logan Lee's Marketplace, only to later be transferred down to the Draper Parkway branch in Draper, Utah, due to yep, MARRIAGE!  This was the year I met and married my true love :)  I rented out my lovely Logan home to a good friend and her family, which worked out perfectly for our changing life plans.  I also honeymooned in Fiji, became scuba dive certified, and swam with sharks!  I completed several bike races, including the Rockwell Relay, Ride around the Wellsvilles, and the Cache Valley Gran Fondo.  I gained a new stepson along with my husband, and I started learning how to blend two families together, a complicated task!  Oh, and I went through many hairstyles and hair colors... its been a crazy, but amazing year!

Mike- Mike works as the Facilities Manager for 40 IHOP restaurants.  He is a busy man, traveling to do remodels, and keeping up with lots of meetings and vendors all over the map.  In his free time, if he has any, he works on finishing our basement.  Speaking of basements, he also finished the basement of my Logan home that I rented out.  Replacing a water heater (not really broken, funny story), installing a toilet, painting and repairing walls, are just a few of the other handy-man tasks Mike has completed this past year, all for the rental properties.  We are thinking of trying out a business with rentals/real estate, but just haven't had the time to work on a real business plan yet.  Of course, he also met me (his beautiful, talented, sweet, funny, athletic, loving and adoring soul mate wife).  He made a LOT of Logan trips, planned a wedding in San Diego, took me to Fiji, and became a dad to two of the cutest little girls in the world.  He completed the Spartan Race, the St. George Ironman, the Rockwell Relay, and the Gran Fondo.  He is the most all-around awesome man on the planet, and now loved by 3 sweet girls.

Bret- Bret works at Carl's Jr. over at a busy shopping center called the District, in South Jordan, Utah.  He is 16 and a Junior at Herriman high school.  We have him every other week...the other weeks he stays with his mom in Herriman.  Bret likes trucks.  Pretty sure I could end Bret's year description right there.  He LOVES trucks.  He has a Chevy truck that is constantly having problems, and Bret is constantly fixing them.  He can fix just about anything on any car or truck.  He is even taking a mechanics class at high school.  Bret is a pretty typical teenage boy, enjoying being with friends, working on cars, playing video games, and not school.  He is a joy to be around...always offering to help out.  I've learned that he loves Marie Callender's kahlua cream cheese pie, and basically all food, which may be why he's so tall.  He surpassed his dad in height and towers over the rest of us, at a 6'3" stature, last time we measured.  Bret is a good kid, and I'm glad I'm getting the chance to know him a little better.

Avril- This girl is all girl.  She likes to wear dresses everyday.  In fact, her favorite activity just might be dressing up like a princess.  She is only 4 and wants to wear heels (glass slippers actually).  Since we moved down to South Jordan, we started her in a new daycare/preschool by my work in Sandy, Utah, called La Petite Academy.  She is not a huge fan of school, but always does as she is told.  She LOVES art projects, and would be content working on crafts all day long.  She brings home a huge stack of her artwork from school every day, and describes each piece of art to you, one by one.  I have been told multiple times by her teachers that she is an excellent listener, and always obeys what the teacher says.  Avril has a people-pleaser personality, always wanting to make others happy.  She is very thoughtful and loving, and along with those traits, dramatic and emotional.  She remains our sweetheart girl, blessed with the sweetest, most tender heart you've ever seen.  She loves to shower Mike and I with hugs and kisses.  We love this little girl as much as the sky (one of Avril's favorite phrases to say).  Some cute things she says incorrectly: "Renember", instead of remember.  "Do you renember when we went to Disneyland?"  Speaking of Disneyland, that has to be one of the year's top highlights for Avril.  Hopefully we can save up some $ for another trip soon, since she has never stopped talking about how fun it was.  She also says "maked," instead of naked.  Also, if she sees any skin showing, she will say, "EW! you're maked!!"  Its pretty hilarious.

McKel- Opposite of Avril in every way.  I could pretty much sum up McKel with that statement.  McKel is built like a natural athlete.  She is muscley and flexible, and naturally coordinated at anything she tries.  She is unbreakable.  She can do seemingly anything, fall, and bounce right back, as if nothing happened.  She loves her sister and looks up to her.  She tries to copy everything Avril does (which Avril is often not a fan of).  She wants to try everything, do it herself with no help, and doesn't let anything get in her way.  She has the most adorable smile in the world, and can turn the mood from sad to happy in seconds.  She is a goof ball and loves to laugh.  She loves to be outside, sunshine or snow.  This year's accomplishments include being potty trained (yes!), switching from a bottle to a sippy cup, turning 3 (Dec. 10)...also having the longest and most gorgeos hair of anyone her age...winning over Mike's heart, and even learning to wash her hands before and after eating (which makes Mike beam with pride).  McKel is independent and doesn't seem to be bothered at all by what others think.  She does surprise us with an occasional "I love you" or hug and kiss, which melts our hearts to pieces.  True to her name's meaning (which I researched extensively before her birth), she is a gift from God.  You can't help but fall in love with this girl.

And that's it!  The Andrus family year in review... looking forward to what 2014 brings us.  :)

Egg Rolls

I used this recipe to make some a ton of egg rolls.  Good thing I had these two handsome helpers.  It was kinda fun, we had an assembly line going, and I even got to use a deep fryer for the first time.  I thought they were pretty delicious.  My only complaint was that we didn't have a good egg roll sauce recipe.  So glad I have people to cook for again... especially people like Bret, who love to eat, and get rid of the leftovers!

Bret was in charge of separating the thin wrappers and handing them to Mike

Mike had egg-roll wrapping down to an art
I was the egg roll deep fryer.  Finished product = yummy!
Thanks for helping, Andrus men :)

Love Our Girls

This video makes me laugh. I have one girl who will eat anything, and another who is extremely picky and prefers that sugar be an ingredient in every item she eats. McKel is happy to eat her healthy dinner, while Avril rushes through the minimum she is required to eat in order to get a treat afterward. As you can see from the video, Avril has already put on her pajamas (we usually say they need to have pj's on first before a night-time treat). Avril will do anything for her treat...McKel doesn't really have much of an interest. She is happy with any food, sweet or not. Different as these two girls may be, we love them both equally! That's my rhyme for the day :)
Check out those muscles!  They come in handy when both girls want to be held...
Love all 3 of these peeps (P.S. that's Mike in the pic)

Christmas is Here!!

I forgot how truly difficult it is for a child to wait for Christmas to arrive. Every night before tucking the girls in to bed I hear, "mommy, is it Christmas yet?"  Now that Christmas has finally come, I will probably have to change my answer from, "soon, sweetie, to.... not for a very long time sweetie."
We actually were expecting the girls to get up at the crack of dawn to awaken us from our much-needed slumber to start opening presents.  Luckily, they did let us sleep in a little.  We made some pancakes for breakfast and then let the festivities begin.  It was our first Christmas together as a new family!!  Such a wonderful memory :)
The girls started out with their overstuffed stockings.  Lots of treats and little toy surprises to discover inside!
McKel finds some stocking candy and busts it open!
Chocolate!  Kid approved :)  Thanks Santa!
Avril finds a box of stickers in her stocking :)
So she shows some of that personality we love and poses for the camera
Rebecca the Elf left the girls a note when they found her Christmas morning, saying she would be headed to the North Pole and would be seeing them again next Christmas time...
Check out these cool build-your-own jewelry sets that Santa put in the girls' stockings!
Making a necklace...
Let the present-opening begin!!!  Happy girls!
Avril seems to be smitten like a kitten, with her new sweatshirt!
Isn't she cute?!
McKel is fascinated with her stocking...the presents inside never seem to end...
Look at these two handsome boys!  Bret and the girls even exchanged gifts... it was so sweet :)
After opening a huge wrapped package, Bret finds an Amazon gift certificate hidden inside...
New clothes for the growing girls!!
These girls are in heaven
More clothes!
Is that a new Leap Pad I see??!!
So I made this monstrous fleece blanket for my hubby :)  made with lots of love!  My wonderful madre helped me out with it, most of the work was done up in Logan so wandering eyes would not see the surprise!
After we finished opening all our gifts at our house, we headed up north!  We made a stop in Salt Lake to visit Grandpa Andrus, and then continued on up to wonderful, freezing Logan to visit more family we love!  Busy busy day of present opening!  Uncle JJ, Auntie Arleen, cousin Britt, Uncle Adrian, nana, and papa, all joined us in Logan for more fun.
Uncle JJ got the girls these HUGE presents!  Princess blankets, yay!
Auntie helps Avril to open her gifts.
Check it out!  A tangled blanky from Uncle JJ!
Nana's iPad makes an appearance :)  Brittney hides out in the background...
Thank you Uncle JJ!  We love you :)
One more stop:  Grandma Joyce's house!  Aunt Tracine brings even more surprises for everyone.  Such a sweet lady :)
A very merry Christmas :)
Check out the festive Nana and Papa, complete with antlers and a Santa hat!
I would say our first Christmas as a new family was a success!  We feel so grateful for all we've been blessed with this past year.  We hope everyone's holidays were filled with love and warmth, even if you live in Utah.  Merry Christmas!!

Xmas Eve at Chase

Yep, the bank is open on Christmas Eve, and I was working, even if it was completely dead. But if we're gonna be at work, might as well try to make it fun!  So I brought in an Elf on the Shelf to hide at work, as well as at home.  One night the Elf was sitting on the check writing table with a deposit slip for about a billion dollars to deposit into Mrs. Elferson's checking account.  The next morning when we came in we found the Elf sitting there with a withdrawal slip from Santa Claus himself's account, for Mrs. Elferson :)  The cleaning lady must've had some fun the night before :) haha!
Oh yeah, and we all wore our Christmas socks that day :)
Karen, Sara, Jackie, Ali, Parvathi, and Eileen :)  Our whole Draper branch!

Christmas Show

I was so excited to get to watch my two cutie pies in their first Christmas performance ever...even if it was a cheesey little school show.  McKel's class performed first.  McKel mostly just stood there looking cute and playing with her hair.  Avril's class was next...she definitely had a case of stage fright.  But they were grinning ear to ear that they got to be a part of the special performance, and their mommy and daddy and other daddy came to watch.
A pic from McKel's class performance
You can see McKel was entertained by her hair...
I believe the little girl next to her is named Chloe... she reminds me of the cute Little Rascals character :)
more hair-playing... trying out some model poses for the camera maybe
And here is my little Reindeer girl, Avril, complete with antlers and a red nose!  Adorable.
Not sure what to think about all this...
beautiful Avril, I mean Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer...
A classic Avril look :)
A smile breaks free!

A treat for a delightful performance :)

Pure adorableness...
Notice the cute little snowman face painting :)
Thank you for a very cute Chrstmas show, girls!  We love you to pieces!!!

Rebecca the Elf makes another appearance... hanging out in the pantry, looking for some snacks!

Elf On the Shelf- Day ??

I seem to have slacked off on taking pictures and keeping track of Rebecc'as hiding spots. Hence, the question marks in the post title. Finding our elf continues to be a favorite activity every morning for the girls. Here she is hiding out in a clear glass. Good thing it was clear, making her much easier for little girls to find!

Santa Visit at Lee's Marketplace

While visiting Nana and Papa's house, a surprise visitor came to town! Nana and Papa took the girls to go see a bearded jolly old fellow... as you can see from the picture... they look thrilled.  I think they were a bit terrified.  But I'm pretty sure I have a picture of me as a kid with the same look on my face when I saw Santa... The girls made sure to be extra nice so they wouldn't be on the naughty list.  They even helped with some of the grocery shopping!
Too cute girls with Santa
Cuties in the cart, and cuties pushing the carts :)
I just liked this :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
